The Mi-2 helicopter is the "star" of the Burgas Aviation Museum in September

The Burgas Aviomuseum is dedicating the month of September to one of its special showpieces - the Mi-2 helicopter, which made its maiden flight on 22 September 1961.

"The Mi-2 was the first Soviet helicopter with two gas turbine engines. It was produced in the USSR and Russia between 1965 and 1992. During this period more than 5250 aircraft were built. As a replacement for the Mi-1, the new helicopter significantly surpasses it in terms of speed and lifting capacity," the museum said on its official Facebook page.

This is one of the first helicopters to be registered in the country, as the Mi-2 was included in the first delivery of aircraft to Bulgaria in the 1960s, BTA said. The first registration of the Mi-2 with flight number 202 (later changed to 01) in the Bulgarian Air Force register was on 30 June 1973. The helicopter served Bulgarian aviation for more than 25 years and made its last flight from Krumovo Air Base in September 1998.

The Aviation Museum in Burgas has ten aircraft, including agricultural, civil and military aircraft.
