"I have ordered inspections of all theaters to find out whether there are schemes for siphoning off state funds in other places", caretaker Minister of Culture Nayden Todorov told Nova TV. The comment follows findings of financial abuse in the towns of Razgrad and Smolyan.
Minister Todorov said that the inspection will comfort those who work honestly. "Not everyone working in a theater can be accused of being a fraudster just because they work there", said Minister Todorov. He pointed out that the scheme of fictitious appointments is not new, but the Ministry of Culture cannot detect everything that happens, as budget institutions like theaters are legally and financially independent. Directors operate completely independently with their budgets. Minister Nayden Todorov hopes that this is the beginning of a healing process within the entire cultural system.
