The Consul General of Bulgaria in New York, Angel Angelov, has posted greetings for International Teachers' Day on the diplomatic mission's Facebook page.

"Our communities abroad are strong where there are Bulgarian Sunday schools," the message said. "At the heart of these Bulgarian centres are our teachers. They may not all have teacher training, but they share a special calling - to help parents and grandparents keep our children connected to their homeland," the diplomat also wrote.

"Through their study of the Bulgarian language, geography, history and traditions, our children are not only following the curriculum of the Bulgarian Ministry of Education, but more than that, they are 'learning' to be Bulgarian and proud of their origins," he adds.
