Hungary supports full Schengen membership for Bulgaria and Romania, Interior minister Pintér says

Bulgaria's Interior Minister Atanas Ilkov held a video conference with his Hungarian counterpart Sándor Pintér in the context of the upcoming Justice and Home Affairs Council in Luxembourg on 10 October. 

Pintér reiterated Hungary's support for full Schengen membership for Bulgaria and Romania, a position expressed as early as 2011. He assured that the Hungarian EU Presidency will continue to work actively to achieve this goal.

Ilkov, for his part, informed his Hungarian counterpart about Bulgaria's contribution to the security of the Schengen area and reiterated his readiness to brief his EU counterparts on this issue at the upcoming meeting on 10 October.
