Over the next four years, the allowed catch for turbot in Bulgaria will be within the range of 82.5 tons. This is 10% more compared to the current allowed catch, the Ministry of Agriculture and Food says. The same quota has been set down for Romania - to date the two countries had a quota of up to 75 tons annually. The increase achieved during the 47th session of the General Fisheries Commission for the Mediterranean (GFCM) in Rome is the second hike in 5 years, and comes in response to the long years in which measures have been applied to preserve the species, the Ministry of Agriculture and Food announcement reads. With regard to the Black Sea, during the GFCM session, the measures now in place for sprat and longnose spurdog will continue, as will the measures for the protection of rapana and a full ban on sturgeons.
