Bulgaria ranks third in obesity among seven-year-olds, survey shows

A health survey in 2023 shows that 32% of children aged 7 are overweight, reports BTA. Of these, 15.2% are obese and 4.9% are severely obese. 20.4% of the overweight children had abdominal obesity. Overweight and obesity are more prominent among boys.

According to data from the Ministry of Health and the National Centre for Public Health and Analysis, Bulgaria ranks third among 27 countries in the proportion of obese children, after Greece and Malta.

The study is based on a sample of 3 500 children.
