The Faculty of Fine Arts at the University of Veliko Tarnovo "Sts. Cyril and Methodius" celebrates its half-century anniversary with an interesting exhibition based on student theses and works by current professors from the university in the old capital city. The exhibition builds a visual bridge between history, present and vision for the future of the faculty and the artists who completed their education there. The works will be on display until January 4, 2025 at "Boris Georgiev" City Art Gallery in Varna.
The curator’s vision in the selection of the works reveals the foundations, spirit and opportunities set by the creators of the educational laboratory for artists in Veliko Tarnovo. Started as a speciality within the Department of History, the Faculty of Fine Arts was opened in August 1974, with fine arts education dating back to the very establishment of the higher education institution in 1963. The organizers of the exhibition define it as a kind of "panorama" of the artistic essence of the University of Veliko Tarnovo - the entire palette of specialities is presented: Painting, Sculpture, Graphics, Graphic Design and Visual Communications, Drawing and Intermedia, Mural Painting, Pedagogy of Fine Arts Education and Visual Studies.
The exhibition is an attempt to raise questions about art education in Bulgaria, about the accomplishments so far, in particular those of the University of Veliko Tarnovo, as well as to encourage young artists on their difficult path.
