After rebels in Syria seized Damascus and declared President Bashar al-Assad's ouster earlter today, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs urges Bulgarian citizens residing in the country not to leave their homes until public order is normalised.

Bashar al-Assad is reported to have fled Syria as rebels say they have captured Damascus.
The Bulgarian Embassy in Damascus is in constant contact with Bulgarian citizens and their family members who have asked for assistance in leaving Syria. The security situation is being closely monitored and, if the opportunity arises, the necessary measures will be taken to ensure the safe departure of those who have expressed their wish to leave the country.

15 Bulgarian nationals and their family members have requested assistance to leave the country since 12.00 on 08.12.2024, reports the Bulgarian Mission in Damascus. According to the local authorities, a total of 71 Bulgarian citizens live in the country on a permanent or temporary basis.
