Bulgaria’s second largest city of Plovdiv is in the top 3 of recommended destinations for the upcoming Christmas and New Year holidays in a ranking by Forbes. Experts from the European Best Destinations organization put Plovdiv in third place, also defining it as the "European capital of wine". When selecting the destinations, groups of travellers were surveyed as they indicated their favorite places for recreation and travel - from luxurious and sunny resorts to exquisite destinations for cultural tourism.
"Plovdiv, the oldest living city in Europe, with its fascinating mix of history and modernity, is a preferred tourist destination all year round. The ancient monuments and the Old Town, with its cobbled streets and charming architecture, provide a romantic backdrop for New Year's celebrations," the article by Forbes reads.
Only Madeira (Portugal) and Marbella (Spain) rank ahead of Plovdiv.
