One thousand more blood donations were made in the past year at the Center for Transfusion Hematology of the Military Medical Academy, the medical institution reported.

"The number of blood donors exceeded 7,000 – half of them are civilian personnel and servicemen from the military formations. For more than three decades, our mission has been to assist the clinics of the Military Medical Academy, work on the development of the transfusion system, and promote voluntary blood donation in Bulgaria", said Professor Rumen Popov, head of the Center for Transfusion Hematology of the Military Medical Academy.

The number of blood donors has increased in recent years, said Professor Popov, emphasizing the efforts of his colleagues to gain the trust of blood donors so they return to donate again.
