The opening of the ski season on Vitosha - the mountain at the foot of the Bulgarian capital Sofia - was scheduled for today. However, the roads to the mountain are currently blocked due to heavy snowfall. Snowploughs are clearing the snow, but it continues to fall. The snow cover is 1 metre.

Weather permitting, the ski lifts "Vitoshko Lale 1" and "Vitoshko Lale 2", "Mecha Polyana", "Training Track" and "Vitosha Snowpark" will be in operation. Up to and including 30 December, the facilities will operate daily from 9:00 to 16:00, after which they will reopen on 2 January and work without a day off until the end of the season under favourable weather conditions, the Vitosha Ski company said.

At the moment, traffic on the roads of Vitosha is difficult. Snowploughs are clearing the snow and it is still snowing. So far the cover is 1 metre.

At the beginning of 2025, the Vitoshko Lale slope will be open for night skiing from Wednesday to Saturday.

This season Vitosha will also host the final of the FIS European Snowboard Cup in the discipline of freestyle rails. The event will take place on 23-24 March in the Mecha Polyana area.
