Bulgarian scientists at the Antarctic base greet the New Year several times

Bulgarian scientists in Antarctica traditionally celebrate the New Year several times, depending on the presence of foreigners in the base, the head of the Bulgarian Antarctic Expedition, Prof. Dr Christo Pimpirev, told BNR Burgas. One of the celebrations will be in Bulgarian time, the other in Antarctic time.

This is the 33rd Bulgarian Antarctic expedition. For the first time so many international scientists and researchers are participating. This year the base is hosting the first Greek expedition, as well as scientists from Montenegro. A meteorologist and a seismologist from Abu Dhabi are also taking part, as are scientists from Colombia and Portugal. "Everyone brings something characteristic of their country and we celebrate the holiday together," says Prof Dr Pimpirev.
