Albert Popov triumphed in the slalom in Madonna di Campiglio, Italy. The best Bulgarian skier achieved the first World Cup win in his career after an exceptional second run. He was 8th after the first run, but in the second run he was the fastest with a time of 52.18 seconds and with a total time of 1:45.22 minutes Popov won the race.

The leader after the first run, Atle Lie McGrath from Norway failed to finish in the second run. Loïc Meillard (Switzerland) and Samuel Kolega (Croatia) placed second and third, respectively.

President Rumen Radev congratulated Albert Popov on his success, which brought "a long-awaited joy to all Bulgarians who have been waiting for this triumph for 45 years".

"From the steep slopes of Vitosha to the highest peaks of the white sport, Albert Popov has been confidently pursuing success for years with dedication, perseverance and, above all, the will to win," the head of state wrote on Facebook, wishing Popov to repeat his "impressive result" at the World Championships in Austria in a month's time.
