The truth is a blessing for those who are ready to go to the end. These words belong to author and screenwriter Svoboda Bachvarova, whose 100th birthday is celebrated on January 11. According to her, cynicism is the biggest blow to humanity. Fired from Bulgarian cinematography in 1989, she emigrated to Brazil to live with her daughter Elitsa Bachvarova. "Emigrating does not mean abandoning your civic conscience", Svoboda Bachvarova said. "Bulgaria remains forever in my heart with its intellectual, psychological, moral and national curiosity", said Bachvarova. She was born on January 11 1925, in the town of Gorna Dzhumaya, now Blagoevgrad.
Svoboda Bachvarova is the author of the screenplays for the films "Between the Rails", "Dangerous Charm", "The Lot" (1993), based on her tetralogy "Target Land", and "Measure for Measure", based on the novel "Ilinden Mass".
Svoboda Bachvarova passed away on June 27, 2012, in Rio de Janeiro.
