Strict safety measures envisaged in Bulgaria's rail transport after serious train accident

The companies in the structure of the Bulgarian State Railways (BDZ) must submit to the new Minister of Transport Grozdan Karadzhov reports on the weaknesses in the safety system and emergency measures to be implemented within a month by the end of the week. This became clear after a meeting of Karadzhov with the managements of the companies. 

It became clear that three employees of the National Company "Railway Infrastructure" - two dispatchers and the traffic manager, have been temporarily suspended due to the serious train accident near Lokorsko, in which two employees died and six were injured. The cause of the accident was a series of gross violations of work procedures. 

After the incident, the managers of "BDZ-Freight Transport" and National Company Railway Infrastructure resigned. 

"Violation of procedural rules related to the safety of railway traffic will not be tolerated," the minister was categorical. The possibility of a systematic secondary control that would be activated in the event of human error to prevent disasters will be considered.
