Bulgarian sabre fencer Yoana Ilieva has won a gold medal at the Women's Fencing World Cup tournament in Plovdiv. In the final at the "Kolodruma" hall, she won 15:13 against Italian Chiara Mormille, becoming the first Bulgarian to reach the top of the podium in a World Cup competition.
In the final duel, Mormille was leading 10:8, but Ilieva showed will and reached 14:13, after which she achieved the final success with a decisive attack.
"I still can't make sense of it. I'm very happy. Honestly, I was so focused on the game that I still can't believe I came first. I hope the best is yet to come," Ilieva commented immediately after the final.
