Bulgarian wine sector worried about shortage of workers

There is chronic shortage of personnel in the wine sector, producers from Plovdiv say. Fewer young people want to work as technologists. The industry fears that the profession may disappear in the future. Annually, about 250 technologists from seven programs graduate from the University of Food Technology in Plovdiv, but few of them remain in the industry.

"We hope that this is a temporary shortage because Bulgaria is a country in which this sector is highly developed. It is a major exporter. Plovdiv and the region are known for their wine production, so there is a dire need for personnel and for this business to continue to develop," Assoc. Prof. Desislava Vangelova of the University of Food Technology Plovdiv told BNT.
