Sending soldiers from European armies to Ukraine has not been discussed, MEP Andrey Novakov, a member of the newly formed defence committee in the European Parliament said in an interview with the Bulgarian National Radio. He also pointed out that currently no country is safe. "Even Germany, which suffers from a historical guilt complex, is beginning to realize that it needs to change its defence potential," Novakov said. According to him, defence will be a leading topic everywhere in the future. "Europe will increasingly have to rely on itself to ensure its security," the MEP said, pointing out that this does not contradict the commitments that the countries have to NATO.

According to Novakov, Bulgaria guards one of the most difficult-to-guard borders in the world and this is its contribution to European security, but at the same time the old military equipment it has "does not increase the feeling of calmness and security."
