It is important to the newly-elected government what kind of budget it is going to propose and uphold, and if it garners support in parliament, how it is going to guarantee its fulfillment, said Prime Minister Rosen Zhelyazkov in answer to a question in parliament.

“It is important to increase revenue not expenditure, and to shed light on the shadow economy,” he said.

The market must be regulated but there should be no interference that could lead to shortages and speculation, PM Zhelyazkov said in a comment regarding the calls, coming from the governing coalition and from opposition parties, for price caps on basic foods. Rosen Zhelyazkov pointed out that any interference by the state on the market of the commodities from small consumer basket is inadmissible, and went on to say that this does not include control measures via the regulatory bodies.
