Vazrazhdane party threatens NSI for providing 'false' data on Bulgaria's readiness to adopt the euro

Politicians and supporters of the Vazrazhdane and MIR parties protested in front of the National Statistical Institute (NSI) against the "fabrication of data" that would allow the introduction of the euro in Bulgaria. They demanded the resignation of the head of the institute, Assoc. Prof. Atanas Atanasov. At a meeting with the NSI president, the politicians and Atanasov exchanged accusations.

Vazrazhdane demanded to see the "raw" data used to calculate inflation and accused the institute of deception.

According to Atanasov, if the NSI did that, it would be a violation of the law. He accused Vazrazhdane of sending threatening emails to the institute's staff. "The NSI does not give recommendations or advice on joining the eurozone," Atanasov said.
