Women make up almost half of scientists and engineers in Bulgaria, according to Eurostat

In 2023, there were 7.7 million female scientists and engineers in the EU, with Bulgaria among the top three countries, according to Eurostat data. The proportion of women scientists and engineers in 2023 varied widely across the EU, with the highest percentages in Denmark (50.8%), Spain (50.0%) and Bulgaria (49.1%).

There are 12 regions in the EU where female scientists and engineers are in the majority, including North and South-East Bulgaria with 54.4%.

The lowest proportion of female scientists and engineers was found in Hungary (30.7%), followed by Finland (31.4%) and Italy (34.1%).
