Bulgaria’s Minister of Tourism Miroslav Borshosh held a working meeting in Brussels with Glenn Fogel, Chief Executive Officer and President of Booking Holdings. The meeting took place during Destination Europe Summit organized by the European Travel Commission, the Ministry of Tourism reported.
The two discussed the possibility of Booking.com checking the actual number of short-term rental properties based on data provided by the ministry on registered accommodation places in Bulgaria. This will help reduce the shadow economy in the sector before the Regulation of the European Parliament and Council on data collection and sharing relating to short-term accommodation rental services enters into force in 2026.
The Association for Tourist Properties and Innovations has already alerted the minister about the gray sector concerning unregistered overnight stays at short-term rental properties.
