Sofia Airport has been officially renamed to Vasil Levski Airport at a solemn ceremony on February 19. The ceremony was attended by Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Transport Grozdan Karadjov, CEO of the airport operator “SOF Connect” Jesus Caballero, representatives of the president, parliament and the academic community.
The naming is not only a tribute to the past, it is also a look into the future, said Caballero.

It has always been strange why one of the main gateways to Bulgaria has remained nameless, said Deputy Prime Minister Karadzhov.

Academician Julian Revalski said that the process of naming the airport had the support of the president and the Ministry of Transport.

A minute of silence was held in memory of the apostle of freedom Vasil Levski.
