Citizens who cross at a pedestrian crossing while holding a mobile phone will be fined, according to proposed legislative changes.

According to Chief Inspector Lachezar Bliznakov from the "Traffic Police", the sanction will apply to both those who are talking and those who are texting. The exact amount of the fine has not yet been specified.

"As participants in traffic, pedestrians are required to consider their behavior before using their right of way at a pedestrian crossing and ensure they pay the necessary attention, avoiding distractions from side activities", said Chief Commissioner Bliznakov.
