There is strict police control in the 30-kilometer border zone with Greece and Romania, announced the director of the Bulgarian Border Police Anton Zlatanov. He explained that after the country's entry into Schengen, checks are carried out on every road leading to and from neighboring countries.

"On the Bulgarian-Greek border, the main priority is to prevent the migration pressure from shifting across a border that, according to some, is not guarded. I guarantee that it will continue to be guarded," Zlatanov pointed out.

The Bulgarian-Turkish border is the most difficult to guard land border in Europe and at the same time the most guarded, Anton Zlatanov also recalled.

In 2024, the Bulgarian border police prevented over 52,500 attempts to illegally enter Bulgaria, which is a 70% decrease in a year. 2,543 migrants who entered illegally were caught, mainly from Syria and Afghanistan.
