The importance of eurozone membership for Bulgaria was the focus of Prime Minister Rosen Zhelyazkov's meeting with European Central Bank President Christine Lagarde and Eurogroup President Pascal Donahue. On the sidelines of the European Council meeting in Brussels, Zhelyazkov briefed Lagarde and Donahue on the country's budget for 2025, which is currently under consideration in the Bulgarian Parliament.

"Bulgaria submitted a request for an extraordinary convergence report in February this year, when it met the Maastricht criteria for euro area membership. I hope that the efforts of Bulgarian society over the past decades to maintain fiscal discipline, to have balanced budgets, will yield the expected result," Zhelyazkov said after the meeting.
