The parliamentary group of “We Continue the Change – Democratic Bulgaria” is organizing a round-table discussion today in the National Assembly, where the necessary legislative changes related to animal cruelty and the commitments of the institutions to implement them will be discussed.

“The case in Pernik, in which there were serial killings of animals for the purpose of trading in violent content, once again reveals the deep gaps in law enforcement and a serious threat to society and is a sign that institutions and legislation do not provide sufficient protection,” the PP-DB stated.

The parliamentary group of the coalition has submitted draft amendments to the Criminal Code, which expand criminal liability for particularly serious crimes against animals, including violence for financial gain. In addition, sanctions are introduced for organized criminal schemes in which violence against animals is used for profit.
