Supporters of the MECH party protested in front of the National Assembly and blocked traffic on Knyaz Alexander I Square. Their protest was against the decision of the Speaker of the National Assembly Natalia Kiselova to dissolve the party’s parliamentary group. Their demonstration passed peacefully to the sounds of patriotic songs.
Kiselova proposed two solutions for getting out of the situation after MP Samuil Slavov resigned – to restore the MECH parliamentary group with a one-time act or to change the rules of procedure. The National Assembly is expected to vote today on the draft resolution of ITN to restore the parliamentary group.
“I expect Kiselova to correct her mistake, otherwise things will develop very unpleasantly for her,” MECH leader Radostin Vassilev told the Bulgarian National Radio.
On March 21 - after the adoption of the budget, the Speaker of the National Assembly announced that the MECH group was ceasing to exist, as it was currently below the minimum of 10 MPs, which is the requirement in the rules for the organization and activities of the parliament.
