President Radev: The government should take clear position on the death of Bulgarian citizen Marin Marinov in Gaza

Bulgarian President Rumen Radev called on the Bulgarian government to take a clear and proactive position on the case of the Bulgarian UN employee Marin Marinov who died in the Gaza Strip. 

"Our society expects it to show that it is concerned about every Bulgarian citizen, regardless of where they are in the world, has a clear awareness of our national interests in our foreign policy and is guided by these interests. Therefore, I expect the government to take a dignified position and demand such information. We cannot rely on information from only one side, and a side that is part of this conflict," said President Rumen Radev.

According to a UN statement, firing from an Israeli tank at a UN building in Deir al-Balah in the Gaza Strip caused the death of Bulgarian citizen Marin Marinov on March 19, 2025. 
A few days ago, Bulgarian Foreign Minister Georg Georgiev stated in Veliko Tarnovo that the Israeli side was conducting an investigation into the case. When asked by a journalist whether Bulgaria intends to conduct its own investigation into Marinov's death, he replied: "The current situation in Gaza makes it extremely difficult for any country to conduct an investigation, except for those who are there on the ground. Due to the complexity of the situation, it is very difficult to commit to deadlines and any precise parameters."
