Writer Kalin Terziyski will present his collection of short stories "Is Anyone There to Love You?" at the Bulgarian Cultural Institute in Berlin on April 1. The book, translated into German by Elvira Bormann, tells of life in a city full of mystery, drama and strange human destinies. The stories are told with subtle humour and feature protagonists whose wisdom and lessons seem to stand the test of time. Kalin Terziyski became popular with his novels "Madness" and "Alcohol". The collection of short stories "Is Anyone There to Love You?" won him the European Union Prize for Literature in 2011, making him the first Bulgarian author to receive the award.
A spiritual journey to the monasteries of Mount Athos begins on 8 April. Through the exhibition "Athos in Drawings and Photographs", photographer Miroslav Dachev and artist Andrey Yanev seem to map out their numerous journeys over the years, inviting the viewer to share their spiritual connection with the sacred mountain. "Athos is not in the drawings and photographs, but hidden behind them, it can be sought, discovered and made part of our 'I' searching for salvation," explain the hosts of the exhibition from the Bulgarian Cultural Institute in the German capital.
The bright week after Easter will see the start of the second edition of the Bulgarian Film Week in Berlin - from 24 to 30 April. "The selection of titles is not based on any ambitious idea of representativeness; I just wanted the films to be new, good and ones I like," says this year's title selector, Associate Professor Yuri Dachev, who has chosen a diverse range of thematic and genre works. The programme opens with "Wedlock" (2024), based on a story by Nikolay Haytov. It will be followed by "German Lessons" - a Bulgarian-German co-production from 2020, as well as "Take Me Home", "Wild Strawberries", "Before I Forget" and "Eternity Package" - all made in Bulgaria.
