New locomotives of BDZ to be named after Bulgarian National Revival figures

Ten new electric locomotives "Smartron", which "BDZ - Passenger Services" is expecting under a contract with the company "Siemens Tron", will be named after prominent Bulgarian National Revival figures who contributed to the development of railway transport in the country. This initiative follows the example of the first fifteen locomotives of the same series, which are already in operation and bear the names of Bulgarian rulers. Each of the new machines will feature a QR code, allowing passengers to learn about the life and work of the individuals whose names the locomotives carry.

The Bulgarian State Railways (BDZ) continues the replacement of outdated machines in order to improve the quality of passenger services. The first of the new machines will serve long-distance routes such as Sofia – Vidin and Sofia – Burgas.
