The increase in toll taxes seriously affects international carriers and all those involved in this activity in the country. Despite the meeting between representatives of carriers and the Minister of Regional Development and Public Works, Ivan Ivanov, who expressed personal commitment to the problem, there is tension in the sector.
Nikolay Rashkov from the Union of International Carriers told BNT that the situation this year is extremely difficult for the industry and it faces an unprecedented crisis. Rashkov pointed out that transit traffic in the country is significant and for the past three years it has almost doubled. According to him, this means that this transit traffic must pay a proportional share of the load on our road system. Rashkov pointed out the importance of a so-called harmonized toll system that treats vehicles not only on their load capacity, but also on the emission class of internal combustion engines. In this sense, it is not right for vehicles with Euro 3 and Euro 6 to pay the same fee in Bulgaria, Rashkov said.
