"The great challenge today, not only for the Balkans and Europe, but for the world as a whole, is to overcome the illusion that peace and security can be guaranteed for one country or region alone, or at the expense of others. Today, when security is becoming a daily challenge, it is particularly important for leaders to exchange views and work together to find ways to strengthen it," said President Rumen Radev before the start of the meeting.

The "Aqaba Process" initiative, launched in 2015 by King Abdullah II of Jordan, addresses current issues related to terrorism, illegal migration and radicalisation. Sofia is hosting the third summit of this format dedicated to the Balkan region.
