Exactly at midnight, the Patriarch of the Bulgarian Orthodox Church Daniil announced the Resurrection of Christ and greeted the Bulgarians with “Christ is Risen” from the St. Alexander Nevsky Cathedral in Sofia. The laity gathered in front of the church responded with the joyful cry “He is Risen indeed” accompanied by the solemn ringing of bells.

Earlier, the Holy Fire was brought to the church in a liturgical procession from the chapel of the Synodal Palace, and the believers took a piece of it to take to their homes.

Patriarch Daniil also delivered an Easter greeting for the holiday, in which he stated: “Without the Resurrection of Christ, there is no Christianity. It is at the heart of Christian life. It gives meaning to all of human history. The good news of Christ’s victory over death passes from century to century like a joyful wave of eternity, which also touches us.”
