In Bright Week we glorify the Holy Apostles and the Virgin Mary

On the second day after Easter begins Bright Week. It is so called because of the light that Christ's Resurrection brings to the world. According to Orthodox tradition, it is a time when the Holy Apostles and the Virgin Mary are glorified. Bright Week ends with the Second Pascha on Sunday.

"Heaven and earth are one in these days. It is this great joy of the bright Resurrection of Christ that is celebrated throughout the week, the most solemn and joyful of the whole year. The Church celebrates the glorious Resurrection of Christ as a celebration of celebrations, a feast of feasts," says Metropolitan Gregory of Vratsa.

This morning Bulgarian Patriarch Daniil took part in a festive liturgy at the Church of the Holy Resurrection in the capital's Krasna Polyana district.

"With his resurrection, the Lord showed us that there is a new way of life, a new way of living that leads to incorruptibility. The millions - billions - of people who have changed their way of life and felt the power of the truth, the power of a pious life, is the greatest testimony of the Resurrection. A bright and blessed Easter," he said.
