Sofia has met the last criterion for entering the eurozone. After meeting the inflation criterion, the data on the budget deficit for 2024 should have been released according to the EU methodology.

In 2024, the institutional sector "General Government" had a budget deficit of 3 billion euros or 3% of GDP, according to preliminary data from the National Statistical Institute and Eurostat. In this way the deficit criterion has also been met.

On average, the budget deficit in EU countries for the past year was 3.2%, Eurostat reported. The largest deficit is in Romania - 9.3% of GDP, Poland - 6.6% and France - 5.8%. Denmark has a budget surplus of +4.5%, Ireland and Cyprus have +4.3% and Greece has +1.3%.
