Religious education in schools is not indoctrination, says Patriarch Daniil

The introduction of the subject "Virtues and Religions" in schools is not aimed at indoctrinating children, but at informing and educating them. Faith is something personal, Patriarch Daniil said in an interview for public service TV BNT. “Faith is not something that can be obtained by saying, insisting, or by force. The purpose of this subject is to educate, to provide information”, Patriarch Daniil pointed out.

“The topic of virtues and religions has been raised by the Holy Synod since the early 1990s, after the changes in the country, and this debate has always been present as a priority in the policy and work of the Holy Synod”, Patriarch Daniil emphasized.

"Parents who do not want their children to study anything related to faith or a particular denomination can enroll their children in a third track — ‘Ethics’. So, there should be no concerns for anyone”, Partiarch Daniil stressed.
