Bulgaria is first in the EU in terms of the share of people at risk of poverty

In 2024, 93.3 million people in the EU (21.0% of the population) were at risk of poverty or social exclusion, according to data from the European statistical office Eurostat. 

According to this indicator, Bulgaria ranks first with 30.35%, or 1.953 million Bulgarians. It is immediately followed by Romania (27.9%) and Greece (26.9%).

In one year, the share of people facing this problem in Bulgaria increased by 0.3%, or by 20 thousand people.

The lowest levels of people at risk of poverty or social exclusion in 2024 were recorded in the Czech Republic (only 11.3%).
