Joining the euro area remains Bulgaria's priority

Bulgaria’s Minister Finance Temenuzhka Petkova has assured the European institutions that the adoption of the euro on January 1 next year remains a key national priority, reported the BNR’s correspondent in Brussels. Speaking to journalists in Brussels, Minister Petkova stated that the government continues its active efforts to ensure that Bulgaria takes its rightful place in the Eurozone as of January 1, 2026.

In Minister Petkova’s words, the next important step concerns the convergence reports, which are expected to come out in early June. She emphasized that the European institutions have reaffirmed their commitment to the preparation and the examination of the convergence reports for Bulgaria.

According to unofficial information, the Council is expected to approve the convergence report for Bulgaria on June 20, the BNR’s correspondent reported.
