NSI: Household expenses up 13%; incomes up 15% in last quarter

In the first quarter of 2025, the average quarterly total income per household member in Bulgaria was BGN 3,271 (€1,672), marking a 15.2% increase compared to the same period in 2024. This data comes from the Household Budget Survey by the National Statistical Institute (NSI).


According to the NSI, the average quarterly total expenses per household member in the first quarter of 2025 amounted to BGN 2,861 (€1,463), which is an increase of 13.3% from the same period last year.


Quarterly income from salaries per household member increased from BGN 1,597 (€817) to BGN 1,845 (€943), a rise of 15.5%.


The largest share of total expenses went to food and non-alcoholic beverages (30.0%), followed by housing costs (16.6%), taxes and social security contributions (15.5%), and transport and communications (11.6%).
