The nationalist party is holding an event at the National Palace of Culture (NDK) in Sofia today at 6:30 pm, which is being promoted as a discussion on 'saving the lev' (the Bulgarian currency - ed.) Among the participants will be the party’s MEP Petar Volgin.
"On Friday, I will call on the people to rise up and restore order and legality in the country. There is no other solution. When the law becomes lawlessness, resistance is mandatory," wrote Vazrazhdane leader Kostadin Kostadinov on Facebook. His post came a day after Parliament Speaker Natalia Kiselova rejected the president's request to hold a referendum on adopting the euro.
Sofia police have announced that they are taking measures to ensure public order around the NDK.
The party's previous major protest against the euro was marked by an attack on the European Commission’s building in Sofia. Radio Free Europe/Radio Liberty recalls that several "Vazrazhdane" activists were arrested for hooliganism afterwards.
