At a special ceremony, Krasimir Valchev, the Minister of Education and Science, broke ground on the construction of the National STEM Centre in Sofia Tech Park (STEM stands for Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics - ed.). The project is valued at over BGN 34 million under the Recovery and Resilience Plan.

According to the Ministry of Education and Science, the centre will train teachers, pupils, students and university lecturers, and will also serve as a training base for Bulgarian Olympic teams. The STEM unit will support Bulgarian schools in presenting the curriculum in a new way, focusing on developing specific skills and competences rather than mechanically reproducing knowledge.

The centre will have modern laboratories focusing on five key areas: natural sciences, mathematics and computer science, robotics and cyber-physical systems, green technologies and sustainable development, design, and 3D prototyping.
