Bulgaria attracts 50,000 medical tourists a year

Around 50,000 medical tourists from abroad visit Bulgaria each year. Most of them come for dental care, which is of a high standard and 60–70% cheaper than in other European countries. Arkadi Sharkov of the Bulgarian Hospital Association announced this during the fourth National Conference on Health Tourism in Burgas, as reported by BNR's Mila Mladenova.

The majority of medical tourists come from neighbouring countries such as North Macedonia, Serbia, Turkey and Greece, as well as from Western Europe — particularly the United Kingdom, Germany, Italy, France and the Scandinavian countries. They are mainly aged between 35 and 65. Many Bulgarians living abroad also prefer to receive treatment in their homeland.
