Sofia Opera and Ballet performs Elektra in Istanbul

This evening, the Sofia Opera and Ballet will present Richard Strauss’ electrifying Elektra to Turkish audiences as part of the 16th International Opera and Ballet Festival in Istanbul. Rooted in ancient Greek mythology, Richard Strauss’ powerful score and Hugo von Hofmannsthal’s libretto find new resonance in this Bulgarian production.

Directed by Plamen Kartalov, the staging promises a bold, cinematic experience. “Elektra unfolds as a sequence of scenes in constant motion. Its rhythm evokes the pace and tension of film editing,” Kartalov explained ahead of the performance at the historic Atatürk Opera House. “The audience is drawn into a dynamic drama.
