This country will strive to use the mechanisms of the European Union to have greater fiscal freedom in terms of defence spending while adhering to a conservative financial policy in view of the expected accession to the eurozone. The Bulgarian minister pointed out that at the upcoming NATO Summit in The Hague, the Alliance should reaffirm its role as the main guarantor of collective security in the Euro-Atlantic area.
