Nostalgia flows gently through Ostava’s latest release Spomen

Ostava's latest single, “Spomen” (“Memory”), leans into the band's signature introspection, offering a melancholic yet rhythmically driven glimpse of what’s to come from their next studio album.

While their previous track, 'Vinoven', pulsed with raw emotion and timeless conflict, 'Spomen' feels like a more kinetic meditation — danceable yet imbued with soft, radiant nostalgia. The lyrics are by guitarist Georgi Georgiev and vocalist Svilen Noev, with Georgiev also taking the lead on the composition.

“It started with the guitar riff at the beginning,” says Georgiev. “I built on that, layering harmonies and wordless vocals. Then I asked myself: what could this be about?" ‘Spomen’ was the first word that stuck. I wrote tons of lyric drafts, but in the end, with Svilen’s words, we shaped it into something that felt right for all of us."

The way the song was structured and arranged was significantly influenced by drummer Daniel Georgiev, who played a key role in the band as a whole. Longtime collaborator Georgi Stanev returned to produce and mix the track, giving it a clean, cohesive finish.

The release also comes with a stylish black-and-white video directed by Nevena Spasova, Noev’s wife. It weaves together personal snapshots from different chapters of each band member’s life, underscoring the central theme: “Spomen” is a song that lives between yesterday and tomorrow, but sounds like today: honest, rhythmic and deeply personal.
