Thirty teams from 5 countries will vie for the trophy of the 16th edition of the cup of the football tournament St. Nikola (St. Nicolas) – patron saint of the seaside city of Burgas, and of sailors, the Bulgarian news agency BTA reports. The competition will take place in Burgas as of today until 15 June, in support of the children of deceased interior ministry employees in the region.
The chief organizer of the tournament Pavlin Koychev, a police officer and former first league referee, is hoping the sum raised will be big enough as to be distributed equally among the legal guardians of a total of 17 children. A T-shirt with the autograph of European, world and Olympic weightlifting champion Karlos Nasar will be part of the prize, at a starting price of 250 Leva.
Police officers from all of the police stations in the region of Burgas will take part in the tournament, as will police officers from Yambol, Nessebar, Primorsko, Sozopol, Sredets; there will also be teams of players from the border police, traffic police, the Sofia police and the General Directorate for Combating Organized Crime.
