Bulgaria has practically adopted the euro since the last century because of the currency board

I am sure that the convergence reports on Bulgaria by the European Commission and the European Central Bank will be welcomed by all eurozone member states. This was what an EU source told BNR correspondent in Brussels, Angelina Piskova. This will happen at the Eurogroup meeting in Luxembourg on Thursday. It will be attended by Minister of Finance Temenuzhka Petkova and the Governor of the Bulgarian National Bank Dimitar Radev.

The source recalled that both reports are positive, as the European Commission's recommendation is that Bulgaria becomes a member of the eurozone on January 1, 2026. "Bulgaria was in a currency board and has practically adopted the euro since the last century. Its economy is very well adapted to operating with exchange rate stability," the source points out, adding that the country has also made reforms for the smooth functioning of its economy within the framework of the currency union.
