Following intense round-the-clock efforts by the Bulgarian Embassy in Tehran, the Foreign Ministry announced that two Bulgarian citizens had been successfully evacuated from the Islamic Republic of Iran.

They crossed the Iranian-Azerbaijani border with the help of embassy staff. Thanks to good coordination with local authorities and the Bulgarian mission, the two Bulgarians are now in Azerbaijan, from where they will depart for Bulgaria. The Foreign Ministry thanks the entire embassy team for their professionalism and swift response in this challenging operational situation. It also thanks partner institutions in the region for their help and support in carrying out the evacuation.

Eighty-nine Bulgarian citizens have already been evacuated from Israel via a flight from Egypt. Other Bulgarians also left the Jewish state with the assistance of the Greek authorities.

Since the conflict began on 13 June, at least 224 people have been killed in Iran and 24 in Israel, including women and children. Thousands have been injured.
