From June 27 to 29, Devetaki Plateau and the surrounding villages are being transformed into a stage for the Jazz Under the Stars festival.
The 11th edition of one of the most poetic musical events in the country kicks off tonight with a concert by Angel Zaberski Trio at the Old Mill in Karpacvhevo village, to be followed by a jam session with Vasil Spassov and his musicians. On Saturday, 28 June, there will be several parallel events at several locations – a workshop with Vesela Morova at the Old Mill, and an interactive jazz lecture with pianist Steve Hamilton. In the evening, Garvanitsa Cave, with its magnificent natural acoustics, will be at the heart of the festival with a Dixieland procession and a big concert by some of the festival’s stars, to be followed by a jam session at one of the guest houses here.
The last day of the festival, Sunday, 29 June, is dedicated to children, with Ventzi Blagoev, Delya Haralambieva and the formation Jazztet bringing the magic of improvisation and rhythm to the youngest jazz lovers. Admission is free to the festival, organized by the Devetaki Plateau Association. In the space of 11 years the event has established the region as a tourist destination, with tourist visits climbing from…. zero to 200, 000 a year, the organizers say.
